I started to see that living in a story of lack was counterproductive.
I shifted my focus from needing things to change in my outer world in order to feel good, to learning how to cultivate feeling good within my present circumstances. This is where the magic lives. Ironically, this is also when things often start to improve in outer circumstances as well.
A functional medicine doctor once asked me “ Who is the captain of your ship.” I sat up straight and told him “Me.” He laughed and said; “ yeah, but who manages your care, your GI doctor? Your primary care doctor? Who is the captain of your ship.” Again, I affirmed; ME.
